The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Logan Forsythe (right big toe fracture) and Rob Segedin (right big toe sprain) on the 10-day disabled list and recalled Brett Eibner and Chris Taylor from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Colorado Rockies rookie left-hander Kyle Freeland hit Forsythe in the first inning on Tuesday night.
Forsythe managed to remain in the game into the bottom of the third, when he was pinch-hit for by Scott Van Slyke. Forsythe was initially diagnosed with a contusion, though x-ray results following the game were “inconclusive.”
The early removal was the second in past four games for him. Right hamstring tightness forced Forsythe out of Saturday’s contest, and he was held out of the lineup Sunday. Forsythe hit .295/.407/.341 with two doubles, three RBI, six walks and 16 strikeouts over 14 games.
Segedin lands on the DL a mere two days after he was recalled from Oklahoma City to take the place of Rich Hill on the active roster. Segedin went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts in two games (one start).
Taylor, whom many believed warranted a spot on the Opening Day roster, joins the Dodgers for the first time this season.
Taylor appeared in 10 games with Oklahoma City and batted .233/.327/.442 with two doubles, two triples, one home run and five RBI. The super-utility man played second base, third base, shortstop and center field.
Eibner hit .344/.389/.656 with one double, three home runs and eight RBI over 12 games with OKC. Included in that was a modest four-game hitting streak. The Dodgers acquired Eibner from the Oakland Athletics in January.
The 28-year-old made his Major League debut last season and batted a combined .193/.266/.353 with 10 doubles, one triple, six home runs and 22 RBI in 208 plate appearances during time spent with the Kansas City Royals and Athletics.
