Dodgers News: Kenley Jansen Uninjured After Falling Through Hole At Dodger Stadium

While the Los Angeles Dodgers have gotten healthy of late, and are expected to activate Clayton Kershaw off the 10-day disabled list on Thursday, they again are facing injury concerns.

Kenta Maeda was removed in the second inning of Tuesday’s game due to a strained right hip and is now scheduled to undergo an MRI. As it stands, Kershaw, Rich Hill and Hyun-Jin Ryu are on the DL. Hill is believed to be a couple weeks from returning, and Ryu isn’t expected to pitch again until after the All-Star break.

Before Maeda suffered his injury, the Dodgers had some fortune on their side with Kenley Jansen. He emerged from stepping in a hole in the outfield at Dodger Stadium with only a few scrapes, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

Closer Kenley Jansen escaped injury on Tuesday when he stepped in a hole while doing his conditioning running on the warning track in left field in the afternoon.

Jansen had a bandage on his right knee, but said he was fine otherwise.

“I heard it happened,” said manager Dave Roberts. “Fortunately, I think Kenley has recovered.”

While Jansen was said to have avoided injury, it’s unknown if he could’ve pitched in the game. The Dodgers never cut into their deficit to the point where Jansen was needed for a save or tasked with keeping the Phillies’ lead at bay.

After a slow start to the season, Jansen has regained his usual form and converted his past 10 consecutive save opportunities. The recent run of success has lowered his ERA and WHIP to 2.66 and 1.01, respectively.
