Dodgers News: Justin Turner Removed From Series Opener Against Cubs Due To Quadriceps Tightness

The Los Angeles Dodgers partook in a third home opener of the 2017 season on Monday, the festivities at Wrigley Field came with extra zeal. The Chicago Cubs raised their 2016 World Series banner, carrying on with the celebration of the organization’s first title in 108 years.

Not only did the Cubs raise a banner in honor of last year’s World Series, they also did so for the 1907 and 1908 World Series, and the 2016 National League Championship Series. That of course came at the Dodgers’ expense, as they were eliminated in six games.

The evening concluded with the Cubs handing the Dodgers a walk-off loss. Prior to that, Los Angeles lost Franklin Gutierrez in the second inning to a potential left-hamstring injury.

But of more concern, Justin Turner was removed in the bottom of the eighth inning due to quadriceps tightness, which Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said will require further evaluation, according to ESPN’s Doug Padilla:

Dodgers 3B Justin Turner left Monday’s game with quadriceps discomfort. Manager Dave Roberts said it is not believed to be serious. Turner will be reevaluated Tuesday.

Turner finished the night 0-for-3, with his lone time reaching coming on a hit by pitch in the eighth. At the time unaware of the reasoning behind Turner’s removal, the ESPN broadcast showed a replay of a Pedro Strop pitch grazing Turner’s left hand/pinky area moments before the third baseman was plunked on the elbow.

Including the series opener against the Cubs, Turner has appeared and started in seven of the Dodgers’ eight games this season. He’s batting .357/.400/.536 with five doubles and three RBI.
