Dodgers News: Julio Urías Attributes Success In June To Mechanical Adjustments

The Los Angeles Dodgers salvaged their series at Coors Field with an 8-4 win over the Colorado Rockies, led by a solid outing from Julio Urías.

The left-hander turned in the best performance of any Dodgers starter during the three-game series, going 5.1 innings and collecting five strikeouts while allowing three runs. He didn’t allow the Rockies to score until Brendan Rodgers’ two-out RBI double in the fourth inning.

Urías gave up another run when C.J. Cron hit an RBI single in the sixth, and he was charged for a third when Brusdar Graterol gave up a base hit upon entering the game with men at the corners and one out.

The outing closed the book on a solid month of June for Urías, who went 3-1 with a 2.20 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in five starts.

The 25-year-old attributed the success to making adjustments with his mechanics that allowed him to be more consistent, via SportsNet LA:

“Just really consistent. Obviously I made some adjustments with my mechanics, and that kind of allowed me to be more consistent with my command and be able to get through the games the way I have.”

After leading MLB with 20 wins last season en route to a seventh-place finish in National League Cy Young Award voting, Urías has picked up where he left off in what is now his seventh big league campaign.

Urías is 6-6 with a 2.64 ERA, 3.95 FIP and 1.03 WHIP with 76 strikeouts against 20 walks in 81.2 innings (15 starts).

Urías sensed momentum building

After a strong start against the Cleveland Guardians at Dodger Stadium, Urías acknowledged he felt a rhythm had been established with each outing this month.

“I feel really good with the last couple outings,” Urías said through an interpreter after the game.

“Obviously there’s a couple things I still want to fix, because I’m a perfectionist in that manner. But there’s things that I’ve done in the last three starts that I feel really confident and really good about.

“It’s kind of pushing forward and getting ready for what’s next.”
