Dodgers News: Julio Urías Making Adjustments While Striving To Keep Same ‘Rhythm’

Julio Urías had a streak of 10 consecutive wins snapped Monday night in a tough-luck loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in which he allowed just one run over six innings.

Urías held the Brewers without a hit until Luis Urías’ solo home run with two outs in the fourth inning. He took over at third base for the injured Mike Brosseau in the third inning. While Urías’ homer was effectively the difference, the Brewers scored three insurance runs in the ninth en route to handing the Dodgers their first shutout loss at home this season.

Julio Urías entered 10-0 with a 1.99 ERA in his last 11 starts. The loss was his first since June 12, but Urías did lower his season ERA to 2.36.

Since a career-worst outing against the Chicago Cubs on July 10, Urías has pitched at least five innings and allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight consecutive starts.

“Maybe like my seven or eight last starts, just things have been changing, my mechanics throughout the week that I think I’ve been just taking them in each start the last two months,” Urías said through an interpreter after the game.

“Just try to stick to the same things, you know, try to maintain that rhythm, maintain that focus, try to make those adjustments. Do the things that I have been doing the last week, attacking hitters, you know obviously today we lost but it’s one of those things that just happens. But just trying to stay to that routine, stay to that rhythm and do the things that I’ve been doing.”

While the left-hander has made some adjustments, it’s come with a mindset of not getting away from key principles.

“Just stay to the same routine,” Urías added. “You know, I’m not really changing anything more or less, just adding more things, making a little bit necessary changes throughout the week, but just saying focused, attacking hitters, putting in the work day in and day out. Those are the results in return.”

Roberts pleased with Urías’ season

Having previously explained why he believed Urías is a better pitcher this season than when he won 20 games last year, manager Dave Roberts again spoke highly of the Dodgers starter last week.

“This year, specifically, he’s been by far more efficient than he’s ever been in his career, I think,” Roberts said. “I don’t know how the numbers line up. That’s what I see. Certainly the last three months of this season. Today was a night that I think he felt his way into the game more than he has the last couple of months. The velocity ticked up late.

“I think with pitchers, there’s always trying to get the feel, the delivery. Tonight, you could see him sort of working through it. I wouldn’t say fighting. But he just does such a good job of making pitches when he needs to, to manage innings, to get outs. And from the third inning on I thought the fastball velocity ticked up and had life in the zone and got misses with it. So just another solid outing.”
