Dodgers News: Josh Ravin Suffers Broken Forearm In Auto Accident

When Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers and catchers reported for Spring Training, it was known Brandon McCarthy and Hyun-Jin Ryu would be a step behind as they continued to recover from their respective surgeries.

However, they were joined on the mend by Josh Ravin, who was sent home on the first day with the flu, and Brooks Brown, who was battling shoulder soreness. Brown’s case was an ongoing issue that bothered him last season during his time with the Colorado Rockies.

The right-hander was unable to overcome the soreness, and was the Dodgers’ first cut of camp on Feb. 26.

Meanwhile, Ravin missed the first week of camp with the flu and strep throat, which led to significant weight loss. He returned on Saturday to throw his first bullpen session of the spring, and threw another on Monday.

The return was short-lived as the Chatsworth High School product suffered a broken left forearm in an auto accident and will undergo surgery, according to Andy McCullough of the LA Times:

Josh Ravin broke his left radius (forearm) in an car accident yesterday. Scheduled to undergo surgery today.

Ravin himself later provided a photo of the gruesome injury:

The Dodgers announced Ravin is expected to miss eight-to-12 weeks after undergoing surgery. The hard-throwing right-hander made his Major League debut with the Dodgers last season. He appeared in nine games, recorded 12 strikeouts and had a 6.75 ERA and 1.82 WHIP over 9.1 innings pitched.
