Jake Reed cleared waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City after being designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers last week to remove him from their 40-man roster.
Because Reed had previously been outrighted in his career, he had the right to refuse the Minor League assignment. Although he’s accepted it, the right-hander has yet to appear in a game since returning to Oklahoma City.
The Dodgers put Reed on waivers as the corresponding move to recalling Victor González from OKC On April 22. It represented an eighth time Reed was DFA’d by a team in the past 18 months, with four of those being by the Dodgers.
He was recalled when the Dodgers placed Michael Grove on the 15-day injured list due to a right groin strain. Reed struggled in a loss to the Chicago Cubs, allowing six runs on five hits, including one home run.
Reed allowed a combined five runs in 2.1 innings pitched over three appearances for Oklahoma City prior to being added to the Dodgers roster.
The 30-year-old pitched for the team during the 2021 and 2022 seasons as well. Over parts of three years with the Dodgers, Reed has a 7.59 ERA, 5.22 FIP and 1.88 WHIP in 12 games.

Reed originally joined the Dodgers organization in July 2021 when he was signed to a Minor League contract after being released by the Los Angeles Angels.
Reed was with the Dodgers for two weeks prior to getting designated for assignment and eventually claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays. He remained with the Rays for just one week and was then claimed by the New York Mets.
Reed began the 2022 season with the Mets before finding his way back to the Dodgers organization on a waiver claim last July. The Baltimore Orioles then claimed him from L.A. in September, only for the Boston Red Sox to follow suit the next month, and the Dodgers to reunite with Reed in November.
Reed was designated for assignment on December 29 as the corresponding move to finalize the signing of J.D. Martinez to a one-year, $10 million contract. He cleared waivers and was sent outright to Oklahoma City.
