While much of the attention placed on Los Angeles Dodgers prospects centers around the likes of Yadier Alvarez, Cody Bellinger and Alex Verdugo, the organization has a deep pool of talented Minor Leaguers.

Among them is Gavin Lux, who was rated the No. 14 shortstop prospect for the 2017 season by Baseball America. Lux was selected 20th overall by the Dodgers in the 2016 Draft.

He became just the second shortstop in the past 14 years whom the Dodgers used their top pick on in the draft. Corey Seager was taken No. 18 overall in 2012.

Lux hit .531 with 10 doubles, four triples and six home runs during his senior season at Indian Trail High School in Kenosha, Wisc.

The 19-year-old spent time with Rookie Level Arizona League Dodgers and Ogden last season, hitting a combined .296/.375/.399 with 21 RBIs and 41 runs scored in 56 games.

Lux was previously rated the ninth-best prospect in the organization by Baseball and America and Baseball Prospectus. However, both rankings were released while Jose De Leon remained with the Dodgers. De Leon checked in at No. 3 on both lists.

Although Lux was committed to attend Arizona State University, he publicly expressed a desire to begin his professional career soon after being drafted. The talented shortstop signed for $2.317 million, which was a mere $700 over slot value for last year’s No. 20 pick.
