Freddie Freeman has long-established himself as one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball, but his 2023 season was a performance of record-breaking heights.

Freeman hit .301/.388/.514 with 59 doubles, two triples, 29 home runs, 131 runs scored, 102 RBI, a .411 wOBA and 163 wRC+, totaling 7.9 WAR.

The 34-year-old also reached 200 hits for the first time in his career, finishing with 211 after falling one shy last year. Freeman additionally ended the season with a new career-best 361 total bases, surpassing his 335 total set in 2016.

Freeman’s 161 OPS+ and wRC+ were his highest marks in a full season over his career, falling shy of the 60-game 2020 season when he had a 187 OPS+ and 183 wRC+ en route to winning the National League MVP Award.

In addition, Freeman’s 23 stolen bases topped his previous career high by 10, which he set in 2022, but it’s fair to note stolen bases were made easier to achieve thanks to MLB’s rule changes. The 131 runs Freeman scored also set a new career high, passing his previous mark of 120 set in 2021.

Those numbers led to Freeman setting numerous records along the way, and he also fell short of a couple.

With one more home run and one more double, Freeman would’ve become the first player in MLB history with 60 doubles and 30 home runs in the same season. It also would’ve made him the first player with at least 60 doubles in a year sine 1936.

Still, what Freeman was able to accomplish is nothing to shy away from, either.

Freddie Freeman records

MLB history

Freeman became the first player in MLB history to have at least 55 doubles, 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in the same season.

Dodgers doubles record

Freeman’s 59 two-baggers set the Dodgers franchise record, which is something he achieved with his 53rd double to overtake Johnny Frederick.

The L.A. Dodgers record was previously held by Shawn Green with 49 doubles.

Coupled with his 47 doubles in 2022, Freeman also became the first Dodgers player to lead MLB or the NL in doubles in back-to-back seasons.

Dodgers extra-base hits record

Freeman finished the season with 90 extra-base hits, which set a new L.A. Dodgers record. The club record was set by Babe Herman, who finished with 94 in 1930 for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Dodgers runs scored record

With 131 runs scored, Freeman now holds the L.A. Dodgers record for most scored in a season. George Pinkney holds the Dodgers franchise record of 134, set in 1888.

Stolen bases by first baseman

Freeman was only caught stealing once on his 24 stolen base attempts, which came out to a 95.8% success rate. That mark is the best in MLB history by a first baseman with at least 20 attempts.
