Dodgers News: Fabio Castillo Recalled From Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Los Angeles Dodgers added to their pitching staff by recalling Fabio Castillo from Triple-A Oklahoma City. He arrives hours after the initial wave of September call-ups that included O’Koyea Dickson, Rob Segedin and Alex Verdugo.

Castillo was previously called up, added to the Dodgers’ 40-man roster and immediately optioned back to Oklahoma City during an off day in June. There was speculation the paper move was completed to prevent Castillo from potentially opting out of his Minor League contract to pursue an opportunity in Japan.

Castillo began the 2017 season with Oklahoma City, but was demoted to Double-A Tulsa after just one start. He went 0-1 with a 1.29 ERA in seven innings over three relief appearances with the Drillers.

The 28-year-old went 4-8 with one save and a 4.04 ERA in 25 combined games (16 starts) with Oklahoma City and Tulsa. In 22 games (16 starts) with OKC, Castillo went 4-8 with a 4.27 ERA, 85 strikeouts and 31 walks in 84.1 innings.

He’s 35-54 with 25 saves and a 4.43 ERA in 347 games (57 starts) over 11 Minor League seasons with the Texas Rangers (2006-12), San Francisco Giants (2013), Baltimore Orioles (2014), Cincinnati Reds (2014), San Diego Padres (2016) and Dodgers (2017) systems.

Castillo was signed by the Rangers in July 2005 as an amateur free agent. He joins the Dodgers without any MLB experience. Friday marks Castillo’s first time being added to an active roster in the Majors.
