The exhibition Freeway Series shifts to Anaheim on Tuesday night for the final Spring Training game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels. The teams split the first two games at Dodger Stadium, with the Dodgers taking the first matchup and the Angels answering back with a 6-0 win.

In what has seemingly become a tradition, Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel is going to be mic’d up for the Freeway Series finale. In recent years, he has been interviewed by SportsNet LA broadcasters Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser during stretches of play.

Ebel’s first in-game interview during the Freeway Series in 2019 went viral on social media for his insight as he chronicled several facets of the job.

Ebel is entering the sixth season of his second stint as a coach in the Dodgers organization. He originally began his coaching career in 1991, serving as a player-coach with the Dodgers’ Single-A Bakersfield affiliate until 1994.

He then held the same role with Single-A San Bernardino in 1995 before becoming a full-time coach the following year.

Ebel received his first managerial opportunity in 1997 with San Bernardino, and later became the skipper for Rookie-level Great Falls in 1998. He also had managerial stints with Single-A Yakima in 1999, San Bernardino in 2000, Single-A Wilmington in 2001 and Double-A Jacksonville from 2002-2004.

Prior to returning to the Dodgers in 2019, Ebel spent 14 years on former Angels manager Mike Scioscia’s coaching staff. Ebel worked as Angels third base coach for nine seasons (2006-2014, 2018) and handled outfield coaching responsibilities at times as well.

Dino Ebel was considered for Angels manager

As the Angels were searching for a new manager during the offseason, Ebel’s name reportedly came up as a potential candidate. However, the team ultimately gave the job to Ron Washington.
