Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Sees Continued Growth In Yasiel Puig

When Yasiel Puig returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers after his month-long exile to Triple-A Oklahoma City he vowed to improve in all facets of his game. Puig’s teammates and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts outlined what was expected of the 25-year-old.

The messages appear to have been well received, with Puig making good on his promise. Thus far Roberts has primarily platooned Puig in right field with Josh Reddick. Though, the rookie manager dismissed the notion of the corner outfield spot being a platoon.

Puig started in left field over the weekend for just the second in his career. On Monday, he slugged his first career pinch-hit home run.

“Yasiel has continued to grow as a baseball player, teammate and as a man,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the win.

“For him to be ready when called upon off the bench, be anxious to help his team win, that’s outstanding. And I know his teammates see that.”

Since being recalled from Oklahoma City, Puig has started four of seven games played. He’s 5-for-14 with three home runs, six RBI and four walks.

Puig’s success is coming after rumors of the Dodgers reported attempts, before and after the non-waiver deadline, to trade their mercurial outfielder.

He’s brushed off having any concern over what the future may hold, instead putting focus and energy into the Dodgers’ push during the final month of the regular season.
