Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Outlines Plan For Logan Forsythe Moving Forward

Perhaps the weakest link among the Los Angeles Dodgers positions this season has been second base, as the combination of Logan Forsythe and Chase Utley has not produced much at the plate.

Luckily, it looks as if the Dodgers have a solution for that as Max Muncy, who has been one of the Dodgers biggest surprises this season, has seen increased playing time at second base in recent weeks.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently said that Muncy will continue to see time there, essentially in a platoon role with Forsythe.

Roberts is not giving up on Forsythe though as he still believes he can be a productive player, it is just going to have to come against left-handed pitchers at least in the near future, via Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times:

“Logan is in a tough spot,” Roberts said. “The way we do things, as far as having more depth and using more players, it’s an adjustment for him. He’s handling it very well, as far as his psyche. Production-wise, he’s still working through things mechanically, to adjust to a different kind of role. We know that there’s a lot more in there from Logan. He’ll get opportunities. But, right now, in the foreseeable future, it’s going to be more against left-handed pitching.”

Forsythe has been in a slump in recent weeks, lowering his season slashline to just .205/.259/.304 with only two home runs and 11 RBI in 53 games.

With Muncy seeing a majority of the playing time against right-handers, Roberts essentially said that Utley is a bench player that will get a start every once in a while.

With the trade deadline just around the corner, it will be interesting to see if the Dodgers look to add another second baseman or infielder to the mix to help sure up the position.
