Dodgers News: Corey Seager To Undergo Arthroscopic Surgery On Left Hip

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that shortstop Corey Seager will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left hip on Tuesday in New York. Dr. Bryan Kelly will be performing the surgery.

Seager was already going to be missing the rest of this season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April, and he is still expected to be able to resume baseball activities in January and be ready for Spring Training.

Seager also missed time during the postseason in 2017 due to a back injury, although it appears he injured the hip while playing this season, via Andy McCullough of the L.A. Times:

Corey Seager tweaked his hip on an awkward play in the field on April 25. This surgery is repairing some damage which occurred then.

With Seager out, the Dodgers acquired a pair of middle infielders before the non-waiver trade deadline this year in shortstop Manny Machado from the Baltimore Orioles and second baseman Brian Dozier from the Minnesota Twins.

Both of those players are free agents at the end of the season, so it is unclear if they will ever share the field with Seager. Given that Machado and Seager both play shortstop, one of them would have to change positions if Machado were to be signed.

After undergoing the Tommy John surgery, Seager said he still plans to play shortstop once he returns. If he is dealing with hip issues though then that could greatly affect his mobility.
