Dodgers News: Corey Seager Removed From Series Opener Against Rockies With Hamstring Cramp

Corey Seager only played two innings in the Los Angeles Dodgers series opener against the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. He hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second and grabbed at his hamstring while jogging into second base.

The Dodgers announced Seager was removed due to right hamstring cramp. He was checked on by manager Dave Roberts and a trainer but remained in the game. However, Seager appeared to signal to Roberts he could no longer continue playing after scoring on Justin Turner’s base hit.

Seager immediately went into the clubhouse and was replaced at shortstop by Kiké Hernandez. Yasiel Puig entered off the bench to take over in right field.

Seager entered play Friday night batting .293/.399/.502 with 19 doubles, 12 home runs and 38 RBI. The 23-year-old was particularly hot over his past 12 games (11 starts), hitting .400/.491/.778 with five doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI.

Included in that was a three-home run performance against the New York Mets. It was his second such game of his career.

Assuming Seager isn’t to miss an extended period of time, the Dodgers could cover shortstop with Hernandez or Chris Talyor. The Dodgers are in the midst of a 20 games in 20 days stretch, which concludes Sunday, July 2, at Petco Park.

Earlier on Friday, the Dodgers announced Julio Urias is scheduled to undergo surgery on his throwing shoulder, and placed Chris Hatcher on the 10-day disabled list.
