Dodgers News: Corey Seager Describes Recovery From Tommy John & Hip Surgeries As ‘Way Smoother’ Than Anticipated

In addition to the Los Angeles Dodgers monitoring the progress Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw make on a daily basis during Spring Training, a watchful eye is also on Corey Seager as he works his way back from Tommy John and hip surgeries.

The elbow operation cut Seager’s 2018 season to just 26 games. While he was recovering from Tommy John, the 24-year-old underwent arthroscopic hip surgery. As expected, the procedure did not impact Seager’s availability come the start of Spring Training.

He’s been an active participant in camp at Camelback Ranch but on a scaled-back basis. Seager steadily built up and only recently began throwing across the diamond and swinging a bat in live batting for the first time since his initial surgery.

Echoing what’s been shared by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, Seager spoke positively about his progression, via Rowan Kavner of Dodger Insider:

“You always hope there’s no hiccup, but yeah, it’s definitely been way better and way smoother than I would’ve expected,” Seager said.

Over the weekend, Seager played in a ‘B’ game at Camelback Ranch, though was limited to at-bats and running the bases. He’s not yet been cleared to play shortstop in a game setting, but is expected to cleared to doing so in the near future.

Roberts previously indicated that while Seager should see action in a Cactus League game, the bulk of his playing time would likely come on the backfields.
