Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Felt He ‘Wasn’t Very Good’ Against Marlins

The Los Angeles Dodgers played one of their worst games of the season on Wednesday afternoon, losing to the Miami Marlins, 8-6, to drop two out of three games at home to one of the worst teams in all of baseball.

Coming off the tough loss on Tuesday night, the Dodgers were hoping to get a classic Clayton Kershaw performance to get back in the win column. That wasn’t the case though as Kershaw’s command was off after the first inning.

He tied a career high with six walks in five innings of work, giving up three runs while striking out seven. Kershaw got out of a couple bases-loaded jams, but the Marlins finally got to him in the fifth inning on a three-run home run to left by Miguel Rojas.

After the game, Kershaw admitted there probably should have been more runs scored on him and took full responsibility for the poor start on than just the three runs given how poorly he feels he pitched, via SportsNet LA:

“I just wasn’t very good. A lot of guys on base, almost skated out of it but I probably should have given up more than that. Not a great game, for sure.”

Kershaw added he felt everything clicking when he struck out the side in the first inning. He didn’t have an explanation or an excuse for falling off after that point.

The loss drops Clayton Kershaw to 1-4 on the season, which is his worst record through his first five decisions in his 11-year Major League career. He still has a 2.84 ERA on the season, so not all is bad, but command issues is certainly something that’s often seen with Kershaw.
