Dodgers News: Brock Stewart Begins 2017 Season On 10-Day Disabled List

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Brock Stewart on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis. Stewart’s DL stint is retroactive to March 30, making him eligible to be reinstated to Monday, April 10.

However, the right-hander is likely looking at a May return. Stewart was shut down in mid-March with the tendinitis in his throwing shoulder. He was to projected to miss one week while focusing on shoulder strengthening exercises.

But Stewart then received a cortisone injection, which pushed back his timeline. Once the right-hander is able to resume throwing, he’ll need time to stretch out. Stewart appeared in just two Cactus League games, throwing 1.2 innings in each relief appearance.

He allowed seven runs on five hits, one home run, hit two batters, issued one walk and recorded one strikeout. Stewart began his meteoric rise last season with High-A Rancho Cucamonga. He pitched for Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to joining the Dodgers for his MLB debut in June.

Stewart went 2-2 with a 5.79 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in seven games (five starts). He finished a combined 9-4 with a 1.79 ERA in 21 Minor League starts.

Los Angeles reportedly refused to include the 25-year-old in a potential trade for Minnesota Twins All-Star second baseman Brian Dozier during the offseason.

Stewart presumably will spend the 2017 season as one of the anchors in Oklahoma City’s rotation, while also pitching for the Dodgers when a spot starter is needed.
