Dodgers News: Bobby Miller Believes He Is ‘A Lot Better Than’ Start Vs. Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a sweep of the Colorado Rockies with an 8-7 win on Wednesday night despite Bobby Miller struggling in his 2025 debut.

The right-hander was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to make a spot start so that Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki can stay on their respective pitching schedules.

Miller allowed a run in the top of the first, but the Dodgers offense would quickly answer back with a seven-spot in the bottom half of the inning.

The Dodgers’ commanding 7-1 lead remained intact until the Rockies put together a big third inning. Michael Toglia began the comeback effort with a grand slam and Mickey Moniak made it back-to-back homers that cut the deficit to 7-6 in the blink of an eye.

Miller finished with seven strikeouts in three innings for just about the only positive from his start. “Just efficiency, getting in hitters counts, I got a little predictable,” he said after the game.

“Changeup and slider wasn’t really there today. I was kind of just working with two pitches tonight. But there’s a lot of positives and a lot of bad at the same time.

“But at the end of the day, just kind of dive deep and find out how to get back in the zone with my other two pitches. And I know I can take off from there, because I know him a lot better than what I showed tonight.”

Miller does not believe the Dodgers’ big lead threw him off his game plan. “No, it didn’t affect the third inning at all,” he began.

“Winning or losing, I’m just going to attack with every pitch I have. Try to be in zone with everything, because I know my stuff is good enough. Just got to command it.”

Given that Miller doesn’t have a set spot in the Dodgers rotation, there’s some line of thinking it can create a desire to try over performing.

“I wasn’t really putting any added pressure on myself,” Miller said. “I know the position I’m in, but I know when I’m on, I can be here for a long time. Just got to fix the problems that I had today, which was command with my other pitches. But yeah, that’s really it.”

Bobby Miller hopes to quickly move on

Miller believes the experience he gained from his disappointing 2024 season will allow him to bounce back quicker after a rough start against the Rockies.

“Just to be in zone with all my pitches, and it’ll get a lot more efficiency out of the outing. I’ll go deeper into games and not tax the bullpen and put us in a better chance to win,” Miller said.

“And if I did that tonight, I know I could have rolled. Trading a lot of those punch outs for quick outs and go deeper in the game, that’s really all.”
