The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated Alex Wood from the 10-day disabled list for his start Sunday in the series finale against the San Diego Padres. He’s looking to help the team snap a two-game losing streak and earn a four-game split at Petco Park.

Wood was placed on the disabled list Aug. 22 due to another bout with left SC joint inflammation. He didn’t consider the latest trouble as serious as the first case, which cropped up in May, and targeted the Padres series for his return.

Wood received a cortisone injection and threw a bullpen session in preparation to be activated. He revealed the inflammation resurfaced following an Aug. 9 start against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In two outings that followed, Wood allowed a combined four runs on 11 hits and recorded 11 strikeouts over 13 innings pitched.

Overall this season, the left-hander is 14-1 with a 2.41 ERA, 2.95 FIP and 1.01 WHIP. Wood faces the Padres for the first time since his role in a benches-clearing incident at the end of June. San Diego manager Andy Green accused Wood of threatening Manuel Margot, and it led to Green and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts exchanging words.

With Wood’s return, the Dodgers will temporarily expand to a six-man starting rotation. Roberts indicated he hopes to settle on five starters by the middle of the month.
