Dodgers News: Alex Wood Placed On Disabled List, Julio Urias Recalled

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Alex Wood on the 15-day disabled list with left posterior elbow soreness and recalled Julio Urias from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Wood’s most recent start was pushed back three days because of left triceps soreness.

He allowed two runs on seven hits over five innings of work (87 pitches) on Monday against the Chicago Cubs, suffering the loss. Wood is 1-4 with a 3.99 ERA, 3.23 FIP and 1.31 WHIP over 10 starts this season.

The southpaw found a nice rhythm of late, in a result of adjusting mechanics to improve the timing in his delivery. Wood’s next start was set for Saturday in the second of a three-game home series with the Atlanta Braves.

It’s currently unclear if Urias will make that start, or if the Dodgers will shuffle their rotation in the coming days. Urias was scheduled to start Thursday for Oklahoma City.

Given the lingering soreness in Kenta Maeda’s right hand, a byproduct of being struck by a line drive, it’s plausible Urias will start for the Dodgers on Thursday, and Maeda in place of Wood. However, that would entail the 19-year-old lefty facing the National League-leading Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Urias threw 2.2 innings against the New York Mets in his Major League debut, allowing three runs, with four walks and three strikeouts. This marks the second time the Dodgers used the injury exception to recall a pitcher from the Minors within the 10-day waiting period.
