The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated Adrian Gonzalez from the 60-day disabled list and optioned Rob Segedin to Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Detroit Tigers. Los Angeles went 48-7 while Gonzalez recovered from bulging discs in his back.

The stint on the disabled list was Gonzalez’s second of his career, with both coming this season. He played in 1,833 games over 14 seasons prior to being shelved for the first time in May.

Gonzalez went 18-for-71 (.254) with a .273 on-base percentage, .380 slugging, six doubles, one home run and 12 RBI over 20 games (19 starts) after returning from the DL.

He was put back on the disabled list June 13 and transferred to the 60-day DL on July 29 to create room for Luis Ysla on the 40-man roster after he was claimed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently explained Gonzalez will not hold a full-time role and instead will receive the bulk of his playing time against right-handed pitching. In just 49 games this season, the 35-year-old is batting .255/.304/.339 with 11 doubles, one home run and 23 RBI.

Gonzalez went 6-for-31 with a home run and six RBI during a nine-game rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga and Oklahoma City.

Segedin returns to Oklahoma City after just one game spent with the Dodgers. He was just reinstated from the 60-day DL on Tuesday, after missing 102 games due to a right great toe strain and right wrist surgery.

Segedin was initially placed on the DL with the toe injury, then had a bone spur removed from his wrist at the end of May.
