Dodgers Jersey & More Part Of Collaboration Between Off-White, MLB & New Era

The Los Angeles Dodgers are among six teams that were selected for a limited collection of merchandise by Off-White in collaboration with MLB and New Era.

The high-end fashion brand, founded by the late Virgil Abloh, has designed jerseys, hooded sweatshirts, caps and t-shirts for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Dodgers, Miami Marlins, Oakland Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays.

An Off-White Dodgers jersey is priced at $1,030, which is notably higher than an authentic version found at MLB retailers. The look is also drastically different as the front features “Dodgers” in the signature cursive script but in quotations, and with “YOUR NAME” on the back to accompany a No. 23.

Furthermore, each Off-White MLB jersey incorporates the brand’s “meteor” holes that Abloh trademarked and first introduced on a handbag in 2019. He then brought Off-White “meteor” holes to clothing as part of a womenswear collection in spring 2020, and that fall for menswear.

The Off-White cap represents the lowest price point in their MLB collection at $260. That’s followed by the t-shirt ($355) and hooded sweatshirt ($630).

Off-White was established in 2013, and five years later, Abloh was hired by hired Louis Vuitton as their artistic director of menswear. In July 2021, LVMH became a majority investor in Off-White, and along with Abloh planned to jointly pursue new projects across luxury categories.

Abloh passed away at the age of 41 last November.

Reaction to Off-White MLB collection

Although Abloh established a strong — and revered — presence in high-end fashion and sneaker industry through work with Jordan Brand, Off-White partnering with MLB and New Era seemingly is an attempt to reach a new customer.

The radical designs have drawn plenty of criticism and jeers on social media, though available sizes on Off-White’s official website suggests sales are doing well.
