Dodgers Injury Update: Tyler Glasnow ‘Not Getting Better’

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been without Tyler Glasnow for more than 11 days, and the way things are trending, it’s going to be a while longer before their ace is back in the mix.

Glasnow was first placed on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 16 due to right elbow tendinitis. The hope was the right-hander would be back in the minimum amount of time, but that has since been ruled out.

The recovery process for Glasnow has been slower than anticipated, and while he began playing catch, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said things are still “slow moving.”

“Given the time that he’s been down, the potential build up, there’s going to be a rehab assignment, he’s got to get back on a mound,” Roberts added of the process ahead. “So I just don’t know what that looks like, but not surprising, for me, that it’s taken longer than we initially thought.”

The good news is Glasnow has not experienced any setbacks that have made his elbow injury more severe. Comparatively, he hasn’t shown much sign of improvement either.

“Not getting better,” Roberts said. “He’s just still not throwing free and easy. And when you’re not, then you’ve got to kind of make some concessions and slow down the process. So that’s kind of what it is.”

Glasnow was scheduled to play catch again on before the series opener against the Baltimore Orioles, and that may prove to be an important day in his rehab. It remains up in the air if Glasnow can be fully ready to go for the postseason.

“I think the coming days will be telling, so I don’t think anyone can sit here today and say that,” Roberts said.
“Because if you play catch today, then great, and he does the same thing, yes. But if he doesn’t, then it’s probably a different answer.”

The Dodgers remain hopeful Glasnow will return before the end of the regular season, but it’s getting late, quick.

Tyler Glasnow needs rehab assignment

The plan for Glasnow originally included him skipping a rehab assignment to the Minor League level. That plan remained firm even with the last update that Glasnow’s recovery process was slower than anticipated.

However, those plans have now changed due to how long Glasnow has, and will be out. It’s unclear when Glasnow will begin a rehab assignment, but it adds another layer to his timeline.
