Dodgers Injury Update: Justin Turner Runs The Bases, Adam Liberatore’s Elbow Structurally Sound

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been hit by a rash of injuries over the past two weeks, with Adam Liberatore, Justin Turner and Alex Wood among those landing on the 10-day disabled list. Turner sustained a hamstring train, Liberatore fell victim to left forearm tightness, and Wood is down with left SC joint inflammation.

Turner joined the Dodgers on their road trip under the notion a return during the weekend series with the Milwaukee Brewers was plausible. Though, it was later determined he’d likely miss through the series against the Washington Nationals.

Meanwhile, Liberatore and Wood returned to Los Angeles to be examined by team doctors. That lent itself to positive news for Liberatore, while Turner continued to make progress in his recovery by running the bases before Friday’s game, according to Andy McCullough of the L.A. Times:

Dodgers reliever Adam Liberatore was also examined in Los Angeles, where doctors diagnosed only inflammation in his forearm, without any structural concern for his elbow. “There was no nerve damage, no ligament damage,” Roberts said. “He’s in a good place. Just a couple weeks off, and it’ll be fine.” . . . Justin Turner (hamstring strain) ran the bases before Friday’s game, but Roberts indicated Turner is still moving at only 85%. He is not expected to be activated until after next week’s series with the Washington Nationals. The team has not determined when he will begin a rehabilitation assignment. “I just want to make sure he’s moving at 100% before he goes out,” Roberts said.

Typically, running the bases is viewed as a final hurdle for a player who is attempting to return from a hamstring injury. Turner was also a full participant in batting practice.

At the time of putting Turner on the 10-day DL with the right hamstring strain, the Dodgers were hopeful he would make a quick return. Turner, who suffered a Grade 1 strain, expressed the same sentiment.

Though, both said the recovery would not be rushed. Turner became eligible to be activated on May 29.

Liberatore battled elbow and knee injuries last season, and eventually underwent an arthroscopic left elbow debridement. He missed time this year due to a groin strain, and has only appeared in four games with the Dodgers.
