Dodgers Injury Update: Justin Turner Likely Out Until Mets Series

Justin Turner was removed from the Freeway Series finale due to left groin discomfort, and Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he would likely be unavailable for a few days. That may be extended, but Turner should avoid a stint on the 10-day injured list.

The Dodgers had an off day on Monday, which gave Turner an extra opportunity to rest, however, he is still likely to miss the entire series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

“I don’t see him coming back any sooner than Friday in New York,” Roberts said. “As far as how long we give him, that’s kind of contingent on how he feels each day. Right now, having the off day and treating him up for the next couple days, we’ll see where we’re at.”

The Dodgers will continue to re-evaluate Turner in the next couple days and decide where to go from there. If all goes well and he is able to return on Friday, that would get him back in the lineup for the series opener against the New York Mets, the team who released him in 2013.

In his career against his former club, Turner is hitting .288/.346/.576 with eight home runs and 20 RBI over 130 plate appearances.

The two-time All-Star has once again been one of L.A.’s most productive hitters this season, so getting him healthy for the stretch run and October will be their top priority. In 105 games, Turner is hitting .289/.376/.491 with a 138 wRC+ and 20 home runs.

Chris Taylor, and possibly Max Muncy, will likely fill in at third base while Turner recovers. Gavin Lux started at third base on Tuesday night in his rehab assignment game with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Kershaw, Duffy transferred to 60-day injured list

The Dodgers transferred Clayton Kershaw and Danny Duffy to the 60-day injured list this week to make room on the 40-man roster for Anthony Bemboom and Conner Greene, who were claimed off waivers from the L.A. Angels and Baltimore Orioles, respectively.

Kershaw, who has been dealing with left forearm inflammation and lingering elbow soreness, will be eligible to return on Sept. 5, which matches up to his recovery timetable.

Duffy, who is out with his second left flexor strain of the season, now isn’t eligible to return until Sept. 15.
