Dodgers Injury Update: Hyeseong Kim Needs Injection For Left Shoulder

Hyeseong Kim is set to miss some time after the Los Angeles Dodgers placed him on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder bursitis prior to Tuesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Kim had been playing through the issue for the past week or so and is just 3-for-his-last-24 at the plate (nine games). He was out of the Dodgers lineup on Sunday, but returned for the series opener at Great American Ball Park and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

While the Dodgers continue their road trip, Kim is expected to fly back to Los Angeles to receive a cortisone injection in his shoulder and will be shut down from baseball activities for a brief period, via Sonja Chen of MLB.com:

In the next couple of days, Kim will return to L.A. to get an injection in his shoulder. He’ll be shut down from baseball activities for a spell.

The latest development is an unfortunate one for Kim, who has carved out a significant role with the Dodgers since being recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in early May.

Kim got off to a blistering start with the Dodgers but has cooled down considerably over the last month or so. Despite not being at full health, he played the first eight games coming out of the All-Star break.

Some of that can be tied to the Dodgers being without Kiké Hernández (left elbow inflammation) and Max Muncy (left knee bone bruise), and Mookie Betts missing the two games due to the death of his stepdad.

Meanwhile, Tommy Edman is dealing with right ankle trouble, but will remain on the Dodgers active roster for the time being.

Alex Freeland replaces Hyeseong Kim

The Dodgers selected the contract of top infield prospect Alex Freeland from OKC as the corresponding move to Kim going on the IL.

Freeland is expected to make his MLB debut in the Dodgers’ series finale against the Reds on Wednesday.
