The 2018 campaign marked a fresh start for Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andrew Toles, who returned to the field in Spring Training after a long layoff while recovering from a torn ACL that required season-ending surgery last May.

Toles quickly returned to form and posted an excellent .852 on-base plus slugging percentage in 25 Cactus League games. Despite his success, Toles found himself on the outside looking in after the Dodgers optioned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City for the start of the season.

With a loaded outfield depth chart, the club determined that Toles would be better suited for regular at-bats in the Minors. Indeed, the 26-year-old picked up where he left off in and hit .462/.500/.731 with a home run and seven RBI over his first six games of the season.

But Toles’ saw his hot start come to an abrupt stop after suffering a hamstring injury and subsequently being placed on the disabled list. The stint was initially expected to be brief, but Toles endured a setback in the midst of his recovery process and remained sidelined for the entire month of May.

However, Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi revealed that Toles has progressed well and may soon return to the Oklahoma City lineup or being a rehab assignment, per Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

Dodgers GM Farhan Zaidi said Toles is getting close to starting a rehab assignment (or simply returning to games with Triple-A Oklahoma City) and could be playing games in a week to 10 days.

It remains to be seen how quickly the Dodgers may recall Toles after he returns. Though, it’s not as if there are many opportunities at the Major League level at present time.

Matt Kemp has continued to swing a hot bat while Yasiel Puig has picked it up in recent weeks. Not only that, but Cody Bellinger has begun receiving an increased workload in center field while Joc Pederson serves as depth at all three outfield positions.
