Dodgers Injury Update: David Price To Miss Weeks With Grade 2 Hamstring Strain

The Los Angeles Dodgers losing their first series of the season coincided with David Price being forced to the 10-day with a right hamstring strain. Price suffered the injury in his lone inning of work in Sunday’s loss to the San Diego Padres.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed Price suffered the hamstring strain after the defeat, which forced him to further adjust bullpen plans after already committing to not using Scott Alexander, Kenley Jansen and Blake Treinen.

It was presumed Price would need to go on the IL, and that was confirmed when an MRI on Monday revealed a Grade hamstring strain. “That’s going to put him down a few weeks minimum. We’ll see over the coming weeks how he responds to treatment,” Roberts said.

“It’s a Grade 2, so the floor is a few weeks. Just kind of depends on how David responds. The nice thing is he gets to keep his arm moving. He’s determined to get back sooner than later, so we’ll see how it plays out.”

Roberts added Price suffered the hamstring strain only a few pitches into his appearance. The Padres greeted him with back-to-back singles and a Sheldon Neuse error left the bases loaded and led to two runs (one earned) scoring before Price could get through the seventh inning.

Price had begun to acclimate well to being a relief pitcher, which got off to a rocky start as he worked to settle into a routine. He’s 1-0 with one save in seven games this season.

Dodgers on injured list

In addition to Price, the Dodgers have Caleb Ferguson, Tony Gonsolin, Tommy Kahnle, Joe Kelly, Corey Knebel, Cody Bellinger and Zach McKinstry on the IL. They began the season knowing Ferguson (Tommy John surgery), Kahnle (Tommy John surgery) and Kelly (right shoulder inflammation) would not be on the Opening Day roster.

Kelly could be returning within the next two weeks or so, while it’s much more unclear for Gonsolin, Knebel, Bellinger and McKinstry. Ferguson and Kahnle are likely out for the entire season, though the latter has expressed hope of pitching late in the year.
