Dodgers Injury Update: Andrew Heaney To Miss Multiple Starts With Shoulder Strain

The Los Angeles Dodgers had high hopes for Andrew Heaney and made him their first signing this past offseason despite coming off a shaky year with the Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees.

When Heaney has been on the mound, he’s proven their faith in him to be correct as he has given up just one earned run across 15.1 innings. However, he was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday, which marked his second time going on the IL this season and begins this latest stint after making just one start upon returning.

The southpaw previously dealt with left shoulder discomfort and those troubles came back, which forced to be shut down again when he felt soreness while throwing a bullpen. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the specifics of Heaney’s injury is a shoulder strain, via SportsNet LA:

“During his bullpen session [Thursday] morning, he just felt some achenes, soreness in his shoulder. So we cut the bullpen short. At that point in time we flew him home to Los Angeles [Thursday] night, got some testing, and it showed a strain in the shoulder. So obviously we shut him down. I don’t foresee it being long, but being a couple starts possibly missed wouldn’t be out of the question.”

Heaney’s current injury is similar to his previous one, but the Dodgers don’t believe it’ll keep him out as long as the first instance:

“It is, but not as severe.”

Heaney’s first left shoulder strain forced him to stop throwing for multiple weeks before being cleared to build his arm strength back up. By the time Heaney returned to the club, he had already missed two months.

After making his last start, Heaney said he felt good and that was backed by his fastball velocity. Prior to the shoulder injury earlier this season, Heaney averaged 91 mph on his fastball, but it was around 93 mph the first few innings last Sunday.

Daniel Hudson likely tore ACL

The Dodgers lost Daniel Hudson to injury during Friday’s win against the Atlanta Braves. After the game, Roberts revealed Hudson likely suffered a torn ACL in his left knee that will end his 2022 season.

Hudson suffered his apparent left knee injury with one out in the eighth inning. After delivering a pitch to Ronald Acuña Jr., he went to make a play off the mound but collapsed to the ground in pain as his knee buckled.
