Dodgers Injury News: Corey Seager To Play Shortstop For First Time On Monday

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager has yet to play the field this spring as he continues to work through a throwing program to make sure his elbow is 100 percent healthy.

The elbow injury hindered Seager for the entire second half of last season, but he opted for rehab and the throwing program in the offseason as opposed to surgery.

When Seager reported to Camelback Ranch for Spring Training he had yet to throw a ball past 90 feet and hadn’t thrown to bases either. Meaning, there were boxes to check off before he could be inserted at shortstop in a game.

It appears he has now done that, as according to David Vassegh of AM 570, Seager is scheduled to play five innings of defense in a Minor League game on Monday and then get into a Cactus League game on Wednesday:

Seager’s elbow has been the Dodgers biggest concern this spring as they have been extremely cautious with their two-time All-Star.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts estimated that Seager would need to play around 10 games in the field this spring to be ready for Opening Day. Wth three weeks until the Dodgers open up the season against the San Francisco Giants, Seager is still on pace to be ready by then.

If Seager is somehow not ready by Opening Day and requires a disabled list to start the season, then the Dodgers are prepared as both Chris Taylor and Kiké Hernandez have been getting some time at shortstop this spring.

As has prospect Jake Peter, who is swinging the bat as well as anyone in the Cactus League right now.
