The Los Angeles Dodgers are a modest 3-2 but it’s been a record-setting start to the 2019 season for the club. Their latest accomplishment was scoring a franchise-best 44 runs through the first five games.

They reached the mark by slugging two solo home runs in Monday’s loss, giving the Dodgers 16 home runs on the young season. Per ESPN Stats & Info, that’s the second-most home runs hit by a team over the first five games of a season in MLB history.

The Detroit Tigers hold the record with 17 home runs hit through five games to open the 2006. The Dodgers’ 16 homers are the most since the Seattle Mariners slugged 15 in five games to start the 1998 season.

L.A. began their power display in historic fashion, setting an MLB record for most home runs on Opening Day with eight. The following night, Joc Pederson answered Jarrod Dyson’s leadoff home run with one of his own. That marked the first time in Dodger Stadium history where both teams hit a leadoff homer.

Lastly, the Dodgers hit 14 home runs during their Opening Series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. It fell one shy of tying a franchise record for most most homers (15) in a four-game series, set against the New York Mets in 2017.

Cody Bellinger leads the team with four home runs, followed by Pederson (three homers); Austin Barnes (two) and Kiké Hernandez (two); and one each from Max Muncy, A.J. Pollock, Corey Seager, Chris Taylor and Alex Verdugo.
