Dodgers Highlights: Will Smith Hits Home Run, Kevin Pillar Makes Diving Catch Vs. Diamondbacks

The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t put together their best effort Sunday but did enough to earn a 3-1 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks to sweep the four-game series. L.A. has won eight games in a row against Arizona since dropping two of three in their last visit to Chase Field.

Will Smith provided Tyler Anderson with an early lead by ending a 12-pitch at-bat against Zach Davies in the second inning with a home run to the pool area in right-center field.

Then in the third, a Gavin Lux leadoff single and Austin Barnes walk led to the Dodgers manufacturing offense. Mookie Betts’ fly ball to deep left field allowed both runners to advance, and Freddie Freeman immediately capitalized by going the other way for an RBI single.

Trea Turner then contributed with an RBI groundout. Turner later singled to extend his hitting streak to 21 games.

Anderson held the Diamondbacks to just five hits and one walk while collecting six strikeouts over seven innings. Anderson has thrown 20 consecutive scoreless innings since last allowing a run to the Diamondbacks on May 17.

Arizona’s biggest threat on Sunday came when Turner’s error left two on with one out. Anderson induced another double-play ball that he helped the Dodgers convert by throwing accurately to second base before Lux finished off the inning with a strong throw.

While the Dodgers didn’t have their cleanest game defensively, Anderson was aided by Kevin Pillar making a diving catch in left field to end the fourth inning. Pillar went 0-for-3 in his Dodgers debut but is expected to be in the lineup again on Monday.

Dodgers road trip

The Dodgers won all three series on their longest road trip of the season and went an impressive 8-2 to maintain their hold of first place in the National League West.
