The Los Angeles Dodgers routed the San Diego Padres, 8-1, to extend their winning streak to six games and send an emphatic message to their National League West challengers.
After Tony Gonsolin labored through a 30-pitch first inning, the Dodgers found early success against Sean Manaea. Mookie Betts led off with a double and Trea Turner singled to put runners at the corners before Manaea hit Freddie Freeman with a pitch to load the bases.
Will Smith hit a dribbler up the third-base line that Brandon Drury threw away, allowing two runs to score. The infield single was one of xx hits Smith finished with.
Drury had more trouble when Hanser Alberto hit a grounder to third base that got by him for a two-run double with two outs.

Manaea ran into more trouble in the third inning when singles by Freeman and Smith set the table for Chris Taylor’s two-run double. Taylor went xx-for-xx with xx RBI and a stolen base in his first game back from a fractured left foot.
Trayce Thompson working a two-out walk paid off as Cody Bellinger followed it with a double that extended the Dodgers’ lead to 8-0.
Tony Gonsolin got through five scoreless innings before being removed due to a high pitch count. David Price and Reyes Moronta also didn’t allow a run, but the Padres scored one off Phil Bickford in the ninth inning.
Dodgers celebrate Vin Scully
Prior to the game, the Dodgers held a Vin Scully ceremony to celebrate his career and life. It ended with manager Dave Roberts and the players standing around the mound to lead the crowd in announcing Scully’s famed, “It’s time for Dodger baseball.”
