Freddie Freeman made an emotional return to the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup on Monday night, but the offense was largely provided by Teoscar Hernández and Shohei Ohtani in a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Dodgers extended their winning streak to three games by defeating the Phillies for the first time this season, and enter Tuesday just 1.5 games back for the best record in the National League.
With the Dodgers trailing 2-0, Andy Pages atoned for his error in center field by hitting an RBI double in the third inning. Ohtani’s sacrifice fly tied the game and Hernández’s two-run homer put L.A. ahead for good.
The Phillies scored a third run off Glasnow in the sixth inning but never drew any closer. Glasnow finished with nine strikeouts over six innings.

Glasnow is on pace for 235 strikeouts this season, which would be the most by a Dodgers right-handed pitcher since Hideo Nomo had 236 in 1995.

Freeman went 1-for-4 in his first game since July 25. Dodgers fans gave Freeman a standing ovation before his first at-bat, which MLB and the Phillies allowed to take place without a pitch clock violation.
Freeman tipped his helmet and tapped his chest to signal his gratitude for the recognition of his son, Max, making progress in his recovery from Guillain-Barré.
Shohei Ohtani 40-40 season
Having already added to his stolen-base total on the night, Ohtani provided insurance with a solo home run in the eighth inning. Ohtani leads the NL with 34 homers and is well on his way to surpassing a career high of 44 that was set last season with the Los Angeles Angels.
Ohtani also has 32 stolen bases as he closes in on the first 40-40 season in Dodgers franchise history.
