Dodgers Highlights: Mookie Betts Throws Out Odúbel Herrera, Hits Home Run In Comeback Win Vs. Phillies

Mookie Betts played a significant role in the Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to seven games and again coming from behind as they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-4.

Philadelphia took a 1-0 lead against Mitch White in the second inning, but Betts tied it in the third. His solo home run was only the Dodgers’ second hit off Aaron Nola to that point in the game — with the other being a Justin Turner double.

Betts also hit a home run off Nola during his start at Dodger Stadium. The solo blast Saturday extended Betts’ on-base streak to 10 games.

With the Phillies holding a 4-1 lead, Betts helped the Dodgers cut into their deficit with a two-run double in the fifth inning. Will Smith then pulled them even with an opposite-field home run in the sixth.

However, Smith’s mental error allowed the Phillies to load the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh. He was bailed out when Betts caught a sinking line drive and threw a strike to home plate to easily get Odúbel Herrera on his attempt to tag.

That momentum carried into the eighth inning as Gavin Lux delivered a go-ahead RBI single. The Dodgers scored a second run on a wild pitch, and Austin Barnes provided insurance with a solo homer in the ninth.

Betts overcame shoulder injury

When Betts was rounding second base on what wound up being a double, he slipped and used his left arm to brace the impact of falling. Betts immediately hunched over in pain and was checked on by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a trainer before remaining in the game.

Betts pulled a single into left field in his next at-bat, and for the second time in the past week finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. He said after the win the shoulder pain felt like a stinger and went away after a few minutes.
