The Los Angeles Dodgers hit five home runs, led by two from Corey Seager, in an 8-3 win to complete a sweep of the San Diego Padres. L.A. finished the season series with nine consecutive victories against San Diego.

Mookie Betts got the Dodgers going early with his 29th career leadoff home run, ninth with the Dodgers and seventh this season. Seager followed that with a line drive that cleared the short fence in right field and was the start of a big night.

That also gave Betts and Seager each a home run for the second consecutive game and the Dodgers a set of back-to-back blasts for the second time in as many nights.

Two innings after their lead was cut in half because of a Ha-Seong Kim solo home run, Justin Turner and AJ Pollock went back-to-back in the fourth. The home run was Turner’s 150th of his career, and for Pollock it marked a second consecutive game going deep.

The two blasts were key as they prevented the Dodgers from facing a deficit when Fernando Tatis Jr. clubbed a two-run home run that carried out of Dodger Stadium. His drive to the left-center field pavilion hit off the back of the roof and rolled into the plaza, traveling an estimated 467 feet.

Tatis became the fifth player in MLB history to hit a home run out of the Dodger Stadium and the first to do so since Giancarlo Stanton in 2015. Overall, it has happened six times as Willie Stargell accomplished the feat twice.

The Dodgers then turned to small ball in the sixth inning as Trea Turner led off with an infield single and moved into scoring position on a groundout. Will Smith hit a flare into right field for an RBI single, and after Justin Turner’s base hit put men at the corners, Pollock drove in a run with his sacrifice fly.

Cody Bellinger’s RBI single up the middle capped off the rally and Seager clubbed his second home run in the seventh inning.

Dodgers don’t get help

While the Dodgers have continued to keep pressure on the San Francisco Giants, they still are two games out of first place in the National League West.
