The Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed the Colorado Rockies to town for a three-game series beginning Friday night, and as has been the case in recent years, they continued their dominance over their National League West rival with a 10-6 victory.

The Dodgers found themselves trailing 6-5 after a grand slam by Kevin Pillar in the eighth inning, but they responded with five runs of their own to earn the come-from-behind victory. The win moved L.A. to 30-10, which matches the best 40-game start in franchise history.

It was the Rockies that jumped out to an early lead on a solo home run by Ramiel Tapia to lead off the game. The Dodgers quickly answered back in the bottom of the first though one a solo homer by Max Muncy, his 10th of the season.

Again trailing in the sixth, Mookie Betts singled and advanced to second on an error, putting himself in a position to score on another single by Corey Seager to tie the game.

L.A. took its first lead of the game by striking for three more runs in the seventh. Chris Taylor got it started with a single, and then Will Smith followed with a two-run home run for his fifth of the season. Seager capped off the rally with a sac fly to make it 5-2.

After the Rockies answered back with the grand slam, the Dodgers’ offense was forced to do more work in the eighth.

That was no issue as two batters later, the Dodgers regained the lead. Cody Bellinger led off the inning with a single and then AJ Pollock went the opposite way for a two-run home run, his eighth of the season.

They weren’t done there as Joc Pederson followed with a home run of his own, his sixth of the season. Betts then put the cherry on top with a two-run home run for his 13th of the season. Betts’ home run went off of a fan’s cardboard cutout in left field, which happened to be the same one that Smith hit on a home run earlier this season.

May turns in another solid outing

Dustin May continued to make his case for National League Rookie of the Year with another solid outing on the mound.

He gave up a pair of solo home runs but was otherwise stellar, allowing three hits and two runs in 5.2 innings with five strikeouts and one walk. He didn’t earn a win but has an impressive 2.88 ERA on the year.
