The Los Angeles Dodgers opened their homestand with a 5-2 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates, receiving key contributions from Max Muncy, David Peralta and Jason Heyward to snap a two-game losing streak.

After the Pirates took a 1-0 lead against Michael Grove, Muncy tied the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning. Peralta followed that with a double to extend his hitting streak to nine games, and Heyward’s two-bagger brought him in to give L.A. a decided lead.

Mitch Keller inadvertently started a rally for the Dodgers by hitting Miguel Vargas with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Miguel Rojas immediately took advantage by driving an RBI double to the left-center field gap.

Peralta and Heyward were at the center of the Dodgers scoring again in the fifth inning, with a base hit and hot-shot grounder, respectively.

“We got a little help right there, but the J-Hey one was a shot that Santana was just trying to knock down,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the win.

“It turned into a double, and then the error on the other one. With baseball, you take it anything you can get it. Like I said earlier, Jason has been having good at-bats so it was good for him to get rewarded.”

Dodgers pitching

Grove was pressed into starting duty because the Dodgers placed Clayton Kershaw on the 15-day injured list due to left shoulder soreness. Grove only pitched four innings but worked his way through traffic to hold the Pirates to just one run.

Caleb Ferguson, Brusdar Graterol, Daniel Hudson and Evan Phillips each contributed a scoreless inning. Ryan Brasier allowed a run in the sixth inning but escaped a bases-loaded jam.

Hudson’s appearance was his first of the season at Dodger Stadium, and Phillips converted his 12th save of the year.
