The Los Angeles Dodgers closed out the first half of the season on a high note, defeating the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 5-3, to take two of three in the Freeway Series.

The win also put them back into sole possession of first place in the National League West heading into the All-Star break. The big hit in the game came off the bat of Kiké Hernandez in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Hernandez launched a line drive home run to left field to put the Dodgers out in front, and they were able to hold onto that lead to claim the victory. Hernandez didn’t just have a good day at the plate, he also got it done in the field too at multiple positions.

Early in the game, while playing second base, he made an over-the-shoulder catch to help out starter Clayton Kershaw. The super-utility man then moved to right field later in the game and made a diving catch in the ninth inning to help Kenley Jansen complete the save.

Yasmani Grandal also had a big day at the plate, hitting his 13th home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning to get the scoring started. He finished 3-for-3 with a walk in the game, reaching in all four of his plate appearances.

After Grandal and Cody Bellinger both singled in the bottom of the eighth inning, Andrew Toles came up with a big two-out single to drive in an insurance run for Jansen, who earned his league-leading 27th save of the season to head into the All-Star break in style.
