The Los Angeles Dodgers received home runs from Justin Turner, Chris Taylor and Trea Turner en route to an 11-2 win over the San Diego Padres that clinched a spot in the 2022 MLB postseason. The Dodgers additionally lowered their magic number for the National League West to two and won a ninth consecutive series against the Padres.
Jake Cronenworth’s solo home run off Andrew Heaney gave the Padres a 1-0 lead in the second inning and a Freddie Freeman error allowed a run to score in the third.
Justin Turner then cut into the Dodgers’ deficit with his first road home run of the season and Chris Taylor tied the game later in the fifth inning with a solo shot.
Max Muncy’s two-run single with the bases loaded broke the tie in the sixth. Sunday’s game was Muncy’s first in three days as he waited for a cortisone injection in his left knee to take effect.

After Trea Turner’s blooper dropped for an RBI single and Will Smith drew a walk with the bases loaded, Justin Turner broke the game open in the seventh inning with a grand slam. The multi-home run game was Turner’s second of the season and 13th of his career.
Trea Turner then took advantage of the Padres having Wil Myers pitch the ninth inning by hitting a fly ball to the third level of the Western Metal Supply Co. building beyond the wall in left field. That gave Turner a 20-20 season.
Dodgers aware of Joe Musgrove’s comments about Turner
After the Dodgers defeated Joe Musgrove at the end of June, the Padres’ starter said he didn’t believe Justin Turner posed much of a threat. That was despite Turner hitting two home runs in the Dodgers’ win at Dodger Stadium.
Following Turner’s grand slam on Sunday, Muncy quipped, “Not a threat,” seemingly in reference to Musgrove’s remarks.
