Dodgers Highlights: J.D. Martinez & Freddie Freeman Combine For 3 Home Runs Against Braves

The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t do Gavin Stone any favors in the first inning and immediately fell into a deficit, but managed to rally behind home runs from J.D. Martinez and Freddie Freeman, among other offensive contributions in an 8-6 comeback win against the Atlanta Braves.

Martinez cut into the Dodgers’ deficit with a solo home run in the second inning. Max Muncy’s RBI groundout brought Freeman home in the fourth, and David Peralta’s triple scored Martinez from first base to get the Dodgers within a run of the Braves.

Freeman then provided a big swing in the fifth inning with a go-ahead three-run homer. The home run was Freeman’s first as a visiting player at Truist Park. His return to play the Braves has been much more normal compared to last season’s emotional visit.

The Dodgers turned to Evan Phillips in a high-leverage situation in the bottom of the fifth, and he limited the Braves to just one run.

Mookie Betts got that back with an RBI single in the sixth inning and Martinez’s second solo homer of the game extended the Dodgers’ lead to 8-5 in the seventh.

Atlanta wound up scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth inning but never drew any closer.

Dodgers prospects take center stage

Stone made his second career start on Monday and was knocked around a bit for five runs over four innings. Next is fellow Dodgers prospect Bobby Miller, who is making his MLB debut on Tuesday.
