Dodgers Highlights: Freddie Freeman, Will Smith & Cody Bellinger Home Runs Vs. Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers offense arrived at Coors Field and it produced an 8-4 win over the Colorado Rockies in the series finale. That gave the Dodgers a 6-3 record on their road trip and helped ensured they haven’t been swept at Coors Field since September 2015.

Despite facing scrutiny over an emotional return and speculation regarding a potential agency change, Freddie Freeman continued to fare well the plate and quickly extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a home run in the first inning.

Freeman finished the night 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk. His home run was one of three the Dodgers hit, as Will Smith and Cody Bellinger also clubbed solo shots.

Meanwhile, Trea Turner bounced back from consecutive hitless games by tying for the team lead with two RBI.

Vote Freddie.

Will Smith deserves to be an All-Star.

The bottom of the Dodgers lineup was also key in providing offense, as Jake Lamb went 1-for-2 with a walk in his first start, Gavin Lux collected two hits, and Eddy Alvarez had two RBI.

Alvarez additionally made an impressive stop at third base to begin an inning-ending double play in the first inning.

Julio Urías turned in the best performance of any Dodgers starter in the series, going 5.1 innings and collecting five strikeouts while allowing three runs. He didn’t allow the Rockies to score until Brendan Rodgers’ two-out RBI double in the fourth inning.

Urías allowed another run when C.J. Cron hit an RBI single in the sixth, and he was charged for a third when Brusdar Graterol gave up a base hit upon entering the game with men at the corners and one out. Rodgers later hit a solo home run off Reyes Moronta.

Rockies made MLB history against Dodgers

Although the Dodgers avoided being swept, they already were on the wrong end of MLB history. By getting the better of Tyler Anderson and Clayton Kershaw, the Rockies became the first team to tab a pitcher who was 8-0 or better with a loss, and defeat a multiple Cy Young Award winner in back-to-back games (either order).
