Dodgers Free Agent Clayton Kershaw Vows To ‘Crush Some Rehab And Be As Good As Can Be’ In 2025

Clayton Kershaw underwent surgeries to his left knee and the big toe on his left foot on Wednesday, which he revealed were necessary after the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series parade and celebration at Dodger Stadium.

Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the surgery on Kershaw’s knee, and Dr. Kenneth Jung operated on his foot. The procedures were necessary to address a bone spur in Kershaw’s toe and torn meniscus in his left knee.

Kershaw also alluded to having some arthritis and potentially a ruptured plantar plate in his left foot as well.

Kershaw confirmed he had the planned surgeries through an Instagram post.

“Had surgery yesterday on my foot and knee! Thank you to Dr ElAttrache and Dr Jung for fixing them!” he wrote. “Planning to crush some rehab and be good as can be next year. Thanks for all the prayers and support! World Series champs!”

This marks a second consecutive offseason in which Kershaw is going to rehab after undergoing surgery. Last year he had surgery to repair the glenohumeral ligaments and capsule in his left shoulder.

Dr. ElAttrache performed that operation as well.

Kershaw’s prolonged recovery from shoulder surgery delayed his 2024 debut until July 25, which in some regard was ahead of the initial rough timeline the Dodgers shared.

Kershaw went 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA, 3.53 FIP and 1.50 WHIP in just seven starts this year. His season was cut short because of the bone spur injury. It’s not known when the 36-year-old suffered the meniscus tear.

Clayton Kershaw’s contract

Kershaw declined the player option in his contract for 2025 and is technically a free agent. However, he’s made it clear the end result will be re-signing with the Dodgers.
