Eddie Rosario Returns To Atlanta Braves On Major League Contract

Eddie Rosario signed with the Atlanta Braves days after rejecting a Minor League assignment to remain part of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization.

Rosario’s decision to become a free agent suggested a greater opportunity was available rather than returning to Triple-A Oklahoma City to continue being part of the Dodgers’ organizational depth. Rosario’s new contract with the Braves is a Major League deal.

The Dodgers signed Rosario to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invite to Spring Training. He struggled in Cactus League play but got off to a hot start with the Oklahoma City Comets.

Rosario batted .339/.406/.542 with six doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI in 15 games with OKC. The Dodgers selected his contract to be added onto their active roster when Shohei Ohtani went on paternity leave.

Edgardo Henriquez was transferred to the 60-day injured list in order to make room for Rosario on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster.

Rosario was in the Dodgers lineup for the two games Ohtani missed, starting both as the designated hitter. He went hitless in his Dodgers debut and was 1-for-2 the following game.

Rosario was designated for assignment as the corresponding move to the Dodgers reinstating Ohtani from the paternity list.

This now marks Rosario’s third stint with the Braves, as he previously played for them from 2021-2023 and part of last season. Rosario’s biggest contributions came during the 2021 postseason, when he was instrumental in the club winning the World Series.

Rosario particularly tormented the Dodgers in their postseason matchup and earned National League Championship Series MVP honors.

He went 14-for-25 (.560) with one double, one triple, three home runs, nine RBI and three walks in six playoff games against th eDodgers. Rosario’s 14 hits were the most in Braves history for a single postseason series and also tied an MLB postseason record for most in any LCS.

“We just couldn’t figure him out,” manager Dave Roberts said after the Dodgers were eliminated. “He beat us the other way, he beat us to the pull side, he got hits off lefties, off righties. We tried to spin him, we went hard. We just didn’t have an answer for him and when you’ve got that big guy looming behind him, it’s just kind of tough to pitch around him.

“Was clearly hot. We just didn’t have an answer for him.”

Eddie Rosario likely playing Dodgers

After briefly having him up with the team, now it stands to reason the Dodgers will face Rosario as an opponent once again this weekend at Truist Park.

Jarred Kelenic was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett, which suggests the Braves intend to give Rosario an opportunity to make regular starts.
