Dodgers’ Cactus League Game Against Athletics Cancelled Due To Inclement Weather

Professional sports and really the world as a whole, have been thrown for a loop in recent days due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has caused the postponement of many leagues, including the NBA and MLS.

Major League Baseball is currently discussing the next steps to take due to the outbreak, and it seems like postponing Spring Training games and perhaps even the start of the regular season is on the horizon.

In the meantime though, the Los Angeles Dodgers are going about business as usual at Camelback Ranch in preparation for the 2020 season. They had a split-squad doubleheader scheduled for Thursday afternoon, hosting the Oakland Athletics while also traveling to Mesa to take on the Chicago Cubs.

Unfortunately, those games will not be taking place for a different reason. The away game against Chicago has already been canceled due to inclement weather, and now the same is the case for the home game at Camelback Ranch.

Max Muncy, Gavin Lux and Will Smith were among the Dodgers that were in the lineup, while David Price was scheduled to make his third spring start. Of course, those details are moot points in the grand scheme of things.

Multiple reports indicate that MLB will suspend play due to coronavirus beginning on Friday, so it appears that the Dodgers have played their last Spring Training game for the time being.

What the next steps after that will be remains to be seen, but the California Department of Public Health has already recommended canceling or postponing all public gatherings of more than 250 people for the time being. That means that Opening Day at Dodger Stadium on March 26 is unlikely to take place with fans in attendance, if at all.
