The Los Angeles Dodgers began their seven-game homestand with a disappointing loss to the Cincinnati Reds, which put a damper on Shohei Ohtani bobblehead night at Dodger Stadium.

The Ohtani bobblehead is among two giveaways of the superstar on the Dodgers’ 2024 promotional calendar. Another Ohtani bobblehead night is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 28, when the Dodgers host the Baltimore Orioles.

FOCO has also released multiple Ohtani bobbleheads, including versions that pair him with fellow Japanese native Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Also planned by the Dodgers is a Shohei Ohtani cap giveaway at Dodger Stadium on Monday, July 22.

The Dodgers’ first Ohtani bobblehead giveaway featured him dressed in a home white uniform and posed in his batting stance. However, the Dodgers also included a surprise by making 1,700 of the Ohtani bobbleheads in a road uniform.

Ohtani went 0-for-2 with one strikeout and one walk on his first Dodgers bobblehead night. He was hit by an errant pickoff throw in the first inning that appeared to cause some discomfort.

Andy Pages pinch-hit for Ohtani in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Dodgers attendance for Shohei Ohtani bobblehead

There was plenty of excitement and interest in the Ohtani giveaway as fans lined up outside Dodger Stadium multiple hours before parking lots opened.

Dodgers attendance for Ohtani’s bobblehead night was announced at 53,527, good for the team’s fifth sellout of the season. That also represented the largest crowd at Dodger Stadium this year and MLB high in attendance thus far for the 2024 season.

“It was overall a very nice view,” Ohtani said through his interpreter, Will Ireton. “Exciting to have a lot of fans in the stands, and I’m very appreciative that they all came.

During the 2022 season, the Dodgers set that year’s MLB record for largest crowd with 53,302 announced attendance on Freddie Freeman bobblehead night at Dodger Stadium.

Dodgers attendance reached a high mark in 2023 for the Freeway Series finale with an announced crowd of 53,057. Festivities that game included Los Angeles Lakers forward Rui Hachimura throwing out the ceremonial first pitch for Japanese Heritage Night at Dodger Stadium.
