The Los Angeles Dodgers will begin the 2018 season on Thursday, March 29, against the San Francisco Giants. They conclude the regular season also against the Giants, but with a three-game series taking place at AT&T Park from Friday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Sept. 30.
The Dodgers are 5-6 against the Giants in season-openers since relocating to Los Angeles in 1958. However, they’re 5-3 when those games have been played at Dodger Stadium, with the last such meeting coming in 2013.
After beginning the season with a four-game homestand, the Dodgers hit the road for a six-game trip that spans across seven days. It’s comprised of three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Giants.
Chavez Ravine will play host to games throughout the summer holidays, with home games set for Mother’s Day (May 13 vs. Cincinnati Reds), Memorial Day (May 28 vs. Philadelphia Phillies), Father’s Day (June 17 vs. Giants), Independence Day (July 4 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates) and Labor Day (Sept. 3 vs. New York Mets).
In addition, the Dodgers will again be home when they join Major League Baseball in celebrating Jackie Robinson Day on April 15, as they host the Arizona Diamondbacks. The organization has worked with the league to ensure they play at Dodger Stadium each year on that date.
Interleague play next season pits the National League West against the American League West. So in 2018, the Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will play a pair of three-game series.
The Dodgers’ first Interleague matchup of 2018 comes April 10, for the start of a two-game set against the Oakland Athletics. The A’s will visit Dodger Stadium for two games on Aug. 7 and 8.
Los Angeles has two 10-game homestands, with the first coming May 21-31, and the second taking place June 25-July 4. They also have two road trips that are just as long, from July 20-29 and Sept. 7-16.
The 2018 MLB All-Star Game is set for Tuesday, July 17 at Nationals Park, and the regular season concludes with all teams playing at 12 p.m. PT on Sept. 30.
With Opening Day coming on March 29, it’s the earliest in MLB history. It’s a byproduct of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement pushing the start of the season forward to allow for additional off days. Each team rings in the new season on the same day for the first time since 1968.
It’s the sixth time the Dodgers open a regular season in March, having previously done so in 1998, 2003, 2008, 2011 and 2014.
