The Los Angeles Dodgers farm system has churned out noteworthy prospects over the past several years, and the 2023 season appears to be a prime year for the next wave of talent to make an impact.
Keeping with other publications recognizing a bevy of Dodgers prospects, the organization had eight players ranked in Keith Law’s top 100 for the 2023 season. The Dodgers have the most number of Minor Leaguers to appear on the The Athletic list.
It’s headlined by Diego Cartaya at No. 6 overall, and includes Miguel Vargas, Bobby Miller, Gavin Stone, Dalton Rushing, Andy Pages, Michael Busch and James Outman.
Dodgers prospects ranked by Keith Law for 2023
Diego Cartaya, No. 6
Cartaya previously was ranked the No. 2 catching prospect by MLB Pipeline, along with 18th overall by Baseball America, No. 19 by Baseball Prospectus and 14th by MLB.com.
Moreover, Law ranked Cartaya the No. 13 overall prospect heading into the 2022 season.
Miguel Vargas, No. 23
Vargas was rated the No. 5 third base prospect by MLB Pipeline, and overall earned a ranking of 30th by Baseball America, 39th via Baseball Prospectus and No. 37 on MLB.com’s list. Vargas also rose from Law’s 2022 rankings, when he was included at No. 62.
Although Vargas has the bulk of his experience at third base, the Dodgers appear likely to play him at second base.
Bobby Miller, No. 28
Miller was ranked the sixth-best right-handed pitching prospect by MLB Pipeline, in addition to earning recognition from Baseball America (No. 21), MLB.com (No. 24) and Baseball Prospectus (No. 27). Law had Miller as the 50th overall prospect heading into the 2022 season.
Gavin Stone, No. 39
MLB Pipeline ranked Stone the No. 10 right-handed pitching prospect, and he placed 50th overall on the Baseball Prospectus list, No. 56 in Baseball America’s rankings and was 56th on MLB.com’s list as well.
Law did not rank Stone among his top 100 prospects for 2022.
Dalton Rushing, No. 62
Rushing’s only other appearance on a national prospects ranking list was at No. 56 on the Baseball Prospectus top 101.
Rushing also was not ranked by Law last year, but due to still being at the University of Louisville. The Dodgers selected Rushing with the 40th pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.
Andy Pages, No. 67
For 2023, Pages previously was ranked by MLB Pipeline (No. 81) and Baseball Prospectus (No. 90). Law included the outfielder at No. 76 on his 2022 list.
Michael Busch, No. 74
Busch is the only Dodgers prospect who dropped from Law’s 2022 rankings, when he appeared at No. 53 overall.
Busch was recently ranked the No. 2 second base prospect for 2023 by MLB Pipeline, and appeared at No. 54 on Baseball America’s list and included at 59th by Baseball Prospectus.
The second baseman is among the Dodgers prospects who could play a key role for the team this year.
James Outman, No. 89
This represents Outman’s first appearance for a national prospects list this season, though he was included on Baseball America’s ranking of the top-10 Dodgers for 2023.
