Clayton Kershaw ‘Absolutely’ Open To Contract Extension With Dodgers

Looking ahead to the upcoming offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers could see two of their most important players in Clayton Kershaw and Corey Seager reach free agency.

Seager is in his final season of arbitration eligibility while Kershaw enters the last year of a three-year contract extension he signed after the 2018 campaign.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman revealed last month that there were no ongoing discussions taking place between the organization and Kershaw.

The left-hander, however, noted he would be more than open to negotiating a new contract with the Dodgers beyond the 2021 season, as seen on SportsNet LA:

“Absolutely. I don’t know what it looks like (in the future), but I love being here. I love the Dodgers, I love everything about this organization and I feel really fortunate I’ve gotten to have as many opportunities as I’ve had to win a World Series. Now that we’ve finally one won, you don’t take that for granted. I really, really have enjoyed my time here and will continue to do so.”

Kershaw has touched on his upcoming free agency multiple times this spring, admitting he is not sure how things will play out. What the soon-to-be-33-year-old was clear about is he and his wife Ellen will take their three children into account and what is best for them.

The family lives in Dallas during the offseason and are together in Arizona during Spring Training, then Los Angeles for the regular season.

As for matters on the field, Kershaw is looking to build off a bit of a resurgent season. He recently turned in a positive first start against the Kansas City Royals in Cactus League play, allowing just two hits over two scoreless innings of work.

Kershaw basked in having family at first start

With a limited number of fans permitted to attend Spring Training games, the Kershaw family took their seat to watch Clayton throw two scoreless innings against the Kansas City Royals. He flashed a big smile and waved to them when walking off the field at the end of his start.

“It was the first time they’ve actually been able to sit in the stands for a while,” Kershaw said. “It was fun to see my kiddos actually get to sit in a seat and watch the game. I got to wave to them, so that was fun.”
